Al-Subtain University is one of Iraq's higher education institutions affiliated with the Holy Imam Hussein Shrine and serves as the international branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS). The University commenced its academic activities in the 2022–2023 academic year after receiving official authorization from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Iraqi Council of Ministers. It represents a pioneering academic model founded on internationally recognized educational standards and the academic system adopted by its parent institution in Tehran.

The University currently comprises three colleges in the fields of medicine and health sciences:

• College of Medicine
• College of Nursing and Midwifery, including:
• Department of Nursing
• Department of Midwifery
• College of Medical Rehabilitation, including:
• Department of Physical Therapy
• Department of Speech Therapy
• Department of Occupational Therapy
